Sir,

Both Ivo Tennant and Mike Atherton (Sport, June 8) omit a vital fact which further highlights the MCC’s lack of vision in 1999. Originally Railtrack offered the long lease to MCC at a price below that eventually achieved in the auction.

I am an MCC member and am horrified at the prospect of Lord’s becoming a property development site. Lord’s is the ground where every cricketer dreams of making runs and taking wickets. We must preserve this special quality and not let it become a “faceless stadium”.
